404 THRU SUNDAY ONLY. Contributions to the Austin Weisberger Memorial Fund, Case Western Reserve. ARRANGEMENTS UNDER THE DIRECTION OF BERKOWITZ-1 KUMIN INC. provincial superior Goodyear Tire Rubber Co. In 1946, she entered the order of Sisters of Notre Dame.

It is thought by her colleagues that she was inspired to enter the religious life by the example of her uncle, the Rev. Jerome N. Rohner, former pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lorain. He died in 1962.

Sister Mary Christopher started her long teaching career at Notre Dame College in 1948. She taught chemistry, astronomy, psychology, mathematics and biology. In 1953, she took her final vows. She received a master's degree in chemistry from Fordham University in 1956 and a doctorate in biology there in 1958. Sister Mary Christopher had been at other universities during summers for research and study.

In 1963 she was at Purdue University doing research in developmental genetics. The next year she studied medical biology at Harvard University. She then was at the University of Michigan doing research in experimental psychology and neurophysiology one year and doing cancer and brain research the next. In 1968, she did research in radiation and neurophysiology at Cornell University. In 1969, Sister Mary Christopher became assistant provincial superior and junior directress.

In the latter assignment, she was responsible for members of the order who had not taken their final vows. Her style of administration in that job and later as provincial superior was calm and reasonable. A visit to her office did not hold terror for those under her. "She was warmhearted, sensitive and insightful," a colleague said. The Chardon Province is the largest in the order and encompasses 62 houses in North Carolina, Florida, Washington, D.C., Virginia and Ohio.

The job of provincial superior involves a great deal of traveling to these locations, as well as to other provinces in Italy, Brazil and Germany. Sister Mary Christopher is survived by a sister, Dolores Fritz of Akron.
