HCLTech Grant
Started in 2015, the HCLTech Grant is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment by HCLTech, through HCLFoundation in India, to strengthen and empower NGOs, engage with them, as well as recognize them for their path-breaking work. Focused on Rural Development, the HCLTech Grant is awarded in three thematic categories, namely Environment, Health, and Education. The Grant is designed to support breakthrough award-winning projects of NGOs, that have a proven track record of evident impact, high credibility and distinct ability to deliver. NGOs that reach out to marginalized, isolated, underserved and
underdeveloped rural communities in India, and work jointly to achieve sustainable socio-economic development.

A countrywide competitive process identifies impactful non-profits working in the areas of environment, health and education. Guiding and informing the selection is a well-established transparent, robust and democratic methodology led by the HCLTech Grant team, independent experts and governance partners. Winners and runners-up are selected after several rounds of screening, due diligence site visits, a sub-jury round and a final jury round. Since its inception in 2015, HCLTech Grant has impacted close to 2 million lives in 27,394 villages spread across 131 districts in 22 states & 2 union territories of India.

Objectives
HCLTech Grant aims to achieve sustainable development of rural communities by supporting NGOs that are
doing path breaking work towards transformation of rural India. The two clear objectives of HCL Grant are
as follows:

  • Award financial Grant to innovative, replicable, scalable, sustainable time bound project, proposed by NGOs which are committed towards transformative rural development, in the categories of Environment, Health and Education
  • Identify NGOs who have made significant impact in rural transformation and publish a compendium capturing work of these NGOs, such that they become globally visible for their efforts.
  • This project aims to strengthen the fifth estate, the NGOs. Through this project HCLTech Grant awards a
    grant of ₹ 5 Crores, for a 4 years’ project under the categories of Environment, Health and Education, to NGOs that are identified through a rigorous selection process. The 2 other runner ups in each category receive a grant of ₹ 25 lakhs (~US$0.03 Million) for a year-long project which is mutually agreed with HCLFoundation after the final Jury meet. Thus, the total committed fund for HCLTech Grant Edition X is ₹16.5
  • Crores (~US$2.2 Million).

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Subject Matter Expert (SME)
HCLTech Grant Programme
Location: Noida

Under the leadership of the Director-HCLFoundation, the assigned personnel will be responsible for providing critical inputs on planning, strategizing, monitoring and supporting at HCLTech Grant defined seven stages of selection process including field investigations of shortlisted NGOs as a part of well-defined due diligence methodology towards the selection of HCLTech Grant Winner NGOs.

The incumbent will be working in the capacity of a consulting advisor for technical inputs on the programme while adding value to the strategies. The incumbent will report to the HCLTech Grant PMO Team, HCLTech
Grant or the personnel assigned to her/him.

Scope of Work:
1. The Subject Matter Expert (SME) will have to evaluate and review the HCLTech Grant applications (70- 100 NGOS) received from the NGOs and be present in the HCL Office during shortlisting of applicants for further stages.

2. The Subject Matter Expert (SME) will be present in HCL offices in SEZ NOIDA/through Online mode for a one-day orientation and field tool finalization workshop. This is the field/evaluation work kick off workshop.

3. During the month of August, the Subject Matter Expert (SME) will begin the field travel/evaluations to the assigned NGOs. These could be 7 to 10 NGOs anywhere in India. The field travels /Everifications/Evaluations must be completed on or before October 2024.

4. The Subject Matter Expert (SME) will present the findings of the field work/evaluations on, in month of September/October to the HCLTech Grant PMO. However, before leaving the project location of the assigned NGO, the Subject Matter Expert (SME) will provide an interim report to the PMO and address any evident gaps before departure.

5. The Subject Matter Expert (SME) is expected to team up with one of the HCLFoundation or its HCLTech Grant’s Knowledge partner staff/associate and provide full cooperation.

6. The Subject Matter Expert (SME) will carry out in-depth field based/evaluation/E-Verifications audits for the assigned applicant NGOs, in order to ensure that the application proposal submitted by the NGO is true in spirit and facts.

7. The Subject Matter Expert (SME) might be approached by HCLTech Grant’s PMO, Sub Jury and Jury members; in case they have a direct query, even after the closure of the contract.

8. In consultation with HCLTech Grant PMO, the Subject Matter Expert (SME) will present the field visit/evaluation plan, conduct the assessment based in pre-designed tool and present a high-quality field visit/evaluation report and a PowerPoint presentation in a prescribed format.

9. The Subject Matter Expert (SME) will have to be present for the Sub jury meeting, followed by the Jury meeting day on call / Online (If required) which is in October/November 2024 and

February/March 2025

Professional Experience

  • At least 15+ years of experience in Environment/Health/Education sector (in the category applied)
  • Excellent track record of working in the development sector especially in the area of Environment/Health/Education sector. developing partnerships with various stakeholders and onground monitoring and implementation of programmes
  • Good with the report writing, need assessment & impact assessment
  • Experience of managing complex and time-sensitive processes
  • Outstanding communication skills, with excellent command of spoken and written English
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Computer literate with competence in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel pan India locations where HCLFoundation is working

Educational Qualifications
Advanced degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent) from a recognized and reputed institution.

Remuneration
Consultancy commensurate with experience and market standards
