Last evening at the San Juan Island Yacht Club,  David Dubbell, of the Friday Harbor USPS, demonstrated the new safety vest developed for Friday Harbor based WHAT company.  The vest contains all of 2011 USCG, COLREGS, and Department of Homeland Security required equipment for a recreational boater.  A partial list of equipment includes, automatic inflating life vest, air horn, signal mirror, 3 handheld flares, smoke flare, dye capsules, throw rope, doggy doo bag, seasick pills, salt pills, 3 Cliff bars, waterproof floating handheld VHF radio with DSC, radar reflecting hat, sunscreen, hand fishing line and dehydrated nightcrawlers, mini Kindle (with 2011 USCG regs, US Customs and Border Patrol regs, WA State Dept of Fish and Wildlife fishing regs), floating distress buoy and flag, $10 in loonies and twoonies, a 10% off coupon at West Marine, 2 free drink tickets, 3 days supply of Sta-Dri marine toilet paper.  Mr. Dubbell is shown with the optional port and starboard tumbler kit.

The vest is being manufactured for WHAT  by its Chinese affiliate, Huwaihou Wear, Limited, and will be available from WHAT’s exclusive retail outlet, Friday Harbor Marine.  All excess profits from sales of the vest will be donated to the USPS tug-of-war training fund.
