Jan 2011 What’s Up, Dock?
Friday Harbor Waterfront Views By Cap’n Crabby
I’ll tell you what’s up. The meniscus in our rain gauge. The Harbormaster reports that the water level inside the harbor breakwater has raised 6” from all the rain. Also up…the Beaufort scale. Friday Harbor Northeaster, 11 degrees, 60+ mph winds. Some boats were tied a little tight to the docks, and were yanking the dock floats up and down, tearing out bull rails, yanking cleats, chafing lines, popping fenders. It went on for a few days. The Lighted Boat Parade and Santa Boat drew a huge crowd of raindrops. Xmas came and went, sans pony again.
For the first time in history, the Port of Friday Harbor will have a booth in the Seattle Boat Show, staffed by volunteers from the various businesses within the Port of Friday Harbor. Friday Harbor Yachts, Friday Harbor Marine, Nak Nek Diving, Classic Daysailing, No Knot Yachts, What, Inc., Out With A Bang, and others. Stop by and say ahoy, and register to win some cool free stuff, including dive trips, kayak and boat rentals, or maybe an Otter Cob.
The Otter Cob is the latest in a series of products developed by What, Inc., a local Friday Harbor company formed by scientists from the U of W Marine Labs. Their mission is to use marine biology science to create better boating products. The Otter Cob follows their previous well known products, Stay-Dri waterproof marine toilet paper, and the Surprise!! seagull striker. What products are distributed exclusively by Friday Harbor Marine.
