Friday Harbor Marine is a member of the  American Sailing Association, which is the world’s foremost organization dedicated to training, teaching and certifying schools, sailing instructors and sailing enthusiasts. When you work with an ASA certified sailing school, you know you’re learning how to sail and getting the most rigorous, safety-first education and the best sailing instruction available.

Learning to sail with Friday Harbor Marine under the ASA sailing certification program gives sailors of all experience levels an opportunity to become more competent and confident in their abilities.  Learning right here in the heart of the world-famous San Juan Island cruising grounds will give you experience in the local waters, and give you an exposure to some of the local marinas and anchorages.

INTRO TO KAYAK SAILING

An exciting, fun, exhilarating introduction to sailing the seas on a Single or Tandem Hobie Mirage-Drive Kayak! This is so much fun we can’t even describe it in words. One hour on dry land learning the ropes, and two hours on the water, feeling free, running with the wind! Special Introductory Rate: $125 per person.

 

INTRO TO TRIMARAN KAYAK SAILING

Now is your chance to get out on the water and experience the fun of sailing a Hobie Trimaran Kayak! This just might change your life, permanently. In a very good way. One hour on dry land learning the ropes, and two hours on the water, feeling free, running with the wind! Special Introductory Rate: $195 per person.

INTRO TO SAILING

For the absolute beginner or (someone who hasn’t sailed in a long time), this is the perfect way to discover or re-discover the joys of sailing. Our expert, friendly, and patient instructors will get you started in your new adventure in just one hour on the dock, and two hours on the boat. Great fun, and the ideal way to get set for ASA101 – Basic Coastal Cruising (see below)! Special Introductory Rate: $195 per person. This comes with a $75 credit towards the ASA101 class.

 

Classes /ASA Standards / Curriculum

In addition to the new offerings just mentioned, we will also be scheduling ASA101 & ASA103 classes every weekend in April and May. Weekday classes will be added as demand increases. Classes are ¼ time in classroom and ¾ on the water.

Basic Keelboat (ASA 101)

Prerequisites: None

General Description: Able to sail a boat of about 20 feet in length in light to moderate winds and sea conditions in familiar waters without supervision. A preparatory Standard with no auxiliary power or navigation skills required.

12 Hrs., Minimum 3 Student Req’d to hold class. $395/person

Private Instruction available for 1 or 2 students @ $995 per class

Basic Coastal Cruising (ASA 103) 

Prerequisites: Basic Keelboat Sailing Certificate

General Description: Able to cruise safely in local and regional waters as both skipper and crew on an auxiliary powered sailboat of about 20 to 30 feet in length, in moderate winds and sea conditions.

15 Hrs., Minimum 3 Student Req’d to hold class. $395/person

Private Instruction available for 1 or 2 students @ $1195 per class

Bareboat Chartering (ASA 104 – Intermediate Coastal Cruising)

Prerequisites: Basic Keelboat Sailing and Basic Coastal Cruising Certification

General Description: An advanced cruising Standard for individuals with cruising experience. The individual can act as skipper or crew of a 30 – 50 foot boat sailing by day in coastal waters. The Standard includes knowledge of boat systems and maintenance procedures.

Scheduling for 104 & 105 classes will begin shortly.
